Introducing Serindia Gallery, Bangkok

Dear Friends of Serindia Publications,

It is my pleasure to announce the forthcoming opening of Serindia Gallery in Bangkok in July 2009.

Why Bangkok? I was born and raised here. Since 2006, after fifteen years in Chicago, which still remains the base for distribution, I have been developing Serindia’s new titles from Bangkok. In mid-2006 I was shown a beautiful location, a post-colonial courtyard house just steps from the Oriental Hotel and the French Ambassador’s residence by the Chao Phraya River. It is a unique location, one-of-a-kind in Bangkok. Three years later, this courtyard complex has been renovated by a local developer and Serindia Gallery is one of its first residents.

Serindia Gallery intends to focus on living artists who share the same visions of fine quality works of art that reflect classical skills and subjects related to the cultures of Asia and the Himalayas. In the past, Serindia has published many of these artists’ work. Now I am presenting their work – paintings and photography – with new originality and accessibility. In using the latest printing technology, I have engaged with the artists to catalogue, photograph, and scan both new and old works, and to make them available as limited edition prints. For the first time, fine works of art both familiar and unfamiliar to friends of Serindia are made available in an affordable way. This not only complements the collection of original works, but also provides additional means to support the artists.

Serindia Gallery, just as our books, shares the same philosophy with Serindia Publications in presenting the rich confluence of cultures in Asian regions, and exploring new ideas while not deviating from quality. I hope you will help to share the vision of Serindia Gallery, fostering the incredible talents and skills of some of the finest artists working today.

Please have a look at Serindia Gallery’s web site: www.serindiagallery.com You will be directed to our Facebook page, which contains a photo album and other information on available works. There is no need to be a Facebook member to browse these pages, but if you are, do become a fan! I very much welcome and invite any comments and suggestions that you may have. Our new web site will be online in July when the gallery opens. Until then, I will continue to use our Facebook page.

There are more exciting works, exhibitions, and projects on the way, including many new titles! Please feel free to contact me by email at serindiagallery@gmail.com. I look forward to being in touch with all friends of Serindia, online or in Bangkok if you plan a visit.

Yours truly,

Shane Suvikapakornkul
